U2’s Bono pays tribute to Eunice Kennedy Shriver
HYANNIS, Mass. — Singer and activist Bono says his “mouth is unusually shut” after the death of his friend, Eunice Kennedy Shriver.
In a written tribute, Bono said Shriver was “a friend, mentor, and matriarch of the community that binds all activists.”
Bono could not attend the funeral Friday for Shriver in Massachusetts because U2 was scheduled to play concerts at Wembley Stadium in London. But he sent three Irish musicians to play at her wake and burial.
In 2006, Bono and Shriver’s son, Bobby, founded RED, an organization to get companies to create Red-branded products and donate some of the sales proceeds for HIV/AIDS relief in Africa.
