Two tribals die in West Bengal clash

KOLKATA - Two tribals were killed in a clash with activists of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) in West Bengal, the police said Monday.
The clash broke out between the CPI-M activists and Maoist-backed tribals over the death of CPI-M leader Nandalal Pal.
Pal was shot dead by suspected tribals Sunday at Lalgarh village in West Midnapore district, some 200 km from here.
‘Two tribals were shot dead Monday afternoon in a clash with CPI-M activists at Ramgarh area of Lalgarh. But we don’t know who initiated the firing - it could be the CPI-M or Maoists,’ district police superintendent R.K. Singh said.
Singh added that the tribals also damaged some police vehicles.
‘Some of our officers have suffered minor injuries while trying to control the situation at Ramgarh,’ Singh said.
The state Inspector General of Police (law and order) Raj Kanojia confirmed that four tribals suffered serious injuries in the clash.
