Two arrested with arms in Jharkhand

RANCHI - Two alleged arms smugglers, wanted by police for over a year, were arrested in this Jharkhand capital Saturday with weapons and ammunition, police said.

Shamsher and Shamsuddin were arrested from near the Ranchi railway station in a joint operation by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) and the Ranchi police.

A 9 mm pistol, a revolver, 400 live cartridges and Rs.40,000 were recovered from the two. According to police, the duo was involved in supplying arms to criminals operating in the state.

The state CID was in search of both criminals for a year. Police sources said the arrest will help them to unearth the arms smuggling syndicate flourishing in the state.

In another development, police raided an illegal arms making factory in Ranchi, seizing five weapons and weapon-making instruments. One man was arrested from the spot.
