Olaf weakens to tropical depression
MIAMI — Olaf is weakening in the Pacific off the coast of Mexico and is now a tropical depression.
Olaf’s maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 35 mph (55 kph). The storm is expected to produce rain in Mexico’s Baja California peninsula over the weekend.
It was expected to turn northeast Saturday with an increase in forward speed. The center of the storm was about 310 miles (500 km) west of Cabo San Lazaro early Saturday.
Rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches were possible across the central Baja peninsula.
