Train kills West Virginia man on stuck scooter
KEYSER, W.Va. — A West Virginia man is dead after his motorized scooter became stuck on railroad tracks and he was hit by a freight train.
Keyser police say the freight train killed Floyd Kenneth Wilt after his scooter’s wheel became lodged between the rail and the asphalt. The accident happened Wednesday night less than a block from the 67-year-old Wilt’s home.
Police say Wilt had to use the scooter because of problems he’s suffered since having a stroke.
The engineer tried to stop after spotting Wilt on the tracks, but couldn’t halt the 128-car train in time.
Crossing gates were down at the time of the crash, but police don’t know how long Wilt had been stuck in the train’s path.
