Singularity University students’ projects
The four projects developed by students at Singularity University this summer:
Gettaround: The team’s iPhone application works with technology in cars to let people rent their autos out when they’re not using them. Renters would be able to see on their iPhones where available cars are located, and unlock and start them through the device.
One Global Voice: The team proposed an open platform that would allow people in the developing world to build simple text-messaging-based applications with their cell phones — like one that can send train schedules, for example. The app creators would profit when other people sign up to use the programs.
Acasa: This group proposes the use of rapid prototyping machines to essentially “print” affordable housing. Acasa is working with a USC professor who had developed a rapid prototyping technology that can be used to make walls.
Xidar: Xidar explored technology to quickly respond to disasters, such as a cell phone application that could provide people with useful information even if cell networks aren’t working.
