Teenager struck, killed by DC subway train

WASHINGTON — A teenage boy was struck and killed by a subway train in Washington, D.C., and investigators believe he may have stepped in the train’s path on purpose.

Metro transit system officials said the unidentified boy was struck about 2 p.m. Thursday at the Columbia Heights station.

Fire Department spokesman Pete Piringer says the boy was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.

The station was closed during the rescue, but has since reopened. Regular train service has resumed.

Metro officials say preliminary information leads investigators to believe the boy intentionally placed himself in the train’s path.
