Hundreds stranded in Jammu as train, bus services disrupted

JAMMU - Several hundred people, mostly pilgrims to the Vaishno Devi shrine, were stranded in this winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir as bus and train services were disrupted following violent protests in neighbouring Punjab after a Sikh sect leader was killed in Austrian capital Vienna.

CHANDIGARH - Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today claimed that the violence sparked by the killing of a Sikh preacher in Austria was confined only to a few areas in Jalandhar and the situation is under control.

VIENNA - The body of Sant Rama Nand, the 57-year-old sect leader who died after violence between rival groups at a gurdwara here, will be flown to India, a spokesperson of the Austrian foreign ministry said.
