SmackDown! Linda McMahon steps down as World Wrestling CEO and into US Senate race

WASHINGTON — Pro wrestling executive Linda McMahon has never been shy about wading into the ring — and now she’s plotting a smackdown of Connecticut Sen. Christopher Dodd.

According to latest reports, Linda McMahon, has resigned from the post of Chief Executive Officer of the WWE or the World Wrestling Entertainment Inc., as she intends to run for the Senate in the forthcoming election in 2010. McMahon is a Republican. She would be running against Christopher Dodd, who is Democrat, in this election.

STAMFORD, Conn. — World Wrestling Entertainment Inc., the sports entertainment company behind shows such as “Friday Night SmackDown,” said Wednesday that Linda McMahon has resigned as its CEO to seek the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Connecticut Democrat Christopher Dodd.
