Sotomayor to meet with senators next week

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama’s Supreme Court nominee will hold her first meetings with senators next week.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said federal appeals court judge Sonia Sotomayor will meet Tuesday with Democratic Sens. Harry Reid of Nevada and Patrick Leahy of Vermont and Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama. There also could be a meeting with Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.

Gibbs said Friday that he is hopeful other meetings will be scheduled during the rest of the week. Sotomayor has spoken with some senators on the phone.
