Sultan Kosen stands ‘tall’ amidst his friends and relatives and the world at large! He is proud to know that he is the tallest man alive. The Guinness Book of World records have recently crowned him the tallest man. Hailing from Mardin in South East Turkey Kosen is in want of a life different from what he is leading now.
He wishes for a companion. He was quoted complaining, “The first thing I want is a car I can fit into. More than that, I want to get married. It’s really difficult to find a girlfriend. They are usually scared of me.” He hopes the world record will come to his rescue.
Being eight feet one inches tall sure has its share of advantages and disadvantages. He comes in twice as handy in household work than any man in the world can. “They use my height to change light bulbs and hang curtains,” Sultan Kosen shares. But at the same time he rues, “I can’t fit in a normal car. I can’t go shopping like normal people. I have to get clothes made specially and I don’t always get what’s fashionable. And going through doors I always have to bend down.”
Kosen recently made for a spectacular view when he loomed large on the children while walking slowly from Tower Bridge in London. Kids were amused at such a sight. Marley Bradbury, 9, was excited as she says, “He’s like a tower on legs.He probably needs lampposts as walking sticks.”
Kosen reached such a height after the age of ten.He was a normal ten year old when his pituitary gland damaged by a tumor produced excessive growth hormones.
Kosen though have limited his chances of forever remaining the tallest man. He has recently undergone surgery to remove the tumour and has stopped growing since. Kosen has gone through a gamut of emotions and trauma before he could declare, “The kids used to tease me and it was very difficult. But now I am really proud of being tall.”
