Strong earthquake hits Indonesia
WASHINGTON — A strong earthquake struck Indonesia early Friday local time, the U.S. Geological Survey said Thursday.
The quake measured a magnitude of 6.1, the survey reported. It hit at 2:33 a.m. Friday local time (2:33 p.m. Thursday EDT).
It struck at a depth of 6 miles and had its epicenter about 135 miles north-northeast of Baubau of Sulawesi and about 1,150 miles east of the capital Jakarta.
No immediate tsunami alert was issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
