SF Bay toll collectors demand more protection
RICHMOND, Calif. — San Francisco Bay area toll collectors are calling for more protection after the fatal shotgun shooting of a co-worker in her booth.
Collectors say they want the California Highway Patrol to make more frequent shows of force at toll booths to deter would-be assailants.
Authorities arrested 46-year-old Nathaniel Burris on suspicion of killing his ex-girlfriend at the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge during evening rush hour Tuesday.
Her friend was also gunned down in a nearby parking lot.
Toll collector Suresh Jethi was robbed at gunpoint last month in his booth at the Benicia-Martinez Bridge. He says he wants to see a CHP car parked beside the booths during overnight hours.
The CHP did not immediately return calls seeking comment.
