Atlantic City corruption trial begins

MAYS LANDING, N.J. — A trial in the latest New Jersey corruption scandal in Atlantic City, known almost as much for its dirty politicians as for its slot machines and card tables, has begun.

Thursday was opening day of the trial of three men accused of luring a Baptist minister who serves on the city council to a motel room, secretly filming him having sex with a prostitute, and using the videotape to try to embarrass him into resigning from office.

Floyd Tally and brothers David and Ronald Callaway face charges of conspiracy, criminal coercion and invasion of privacy. They deny the accusations. But former council president Craig Callaway, brother to David and Ronald, has admitted masterminding the plot.
