Sensex up 221 points in afternoon trade

MUMBAI - Indian equities were trading in the green Tuesday afternoon, with a key index 221 points higher than its previous close.
At 2.16 p.m., the sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 16,255.42 points, was 221.78 points or 1.37 percent higher at 16,435.97 points.
Around the same time, the S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also in the positive terrain at 4,885.9 points, up 1.61 percent.
Broader market indices were also in the green, with the BSE midcap index trading 1.63 percent higher, while the BSE smallcap index was up 1.43 percent.
