Sensex slips on opening

MUMBAI - A key index of the Indian equities markets slipped into the red at the opening bell Thursday, losing over 120 points within five minutes.

The benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the Sensex, opened at 14,755.08 points, below Wednesday’s close of 14,870.9. Within five minutes, it had fallen to 14,750.44 points, 120.46 points or 0.81 percent lower than the last close.

At the same time, the S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) stood at 4,504.25 points, 0.58 percent below its last close.

Broader market indices were still holding in the green, with the BSE midcap index rising 0.16 percent from its previous close, while the BSE smallcap index was up 0.21 percent.
