Sensex down 341 points in afternoon trade (Second Lead)

MUMBAI - Indian equities markets were trading in the red Monday afternoon, with a key index ruling 341 points lower than its previous close about an hour before the end of trade.

The benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the Sensex, which opened at 15,195.83 points, was trading at 14,896.65 points - 341.29 points or 2.24 percent lower than Friday’s close.

Similarly, the S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) fell 1.58 percent to stand at 4,511.2 points.

Broader markets were also under pressure with the BSE midcap index slipping 1.69 percent from its previous close, while the BSE smallcap index was down 1.6 percent.
