Senate GOP leader: More swine flu help if asked

WASHINGTON — The Senate’s Republican leader is pledging to give the Obama administration any more help it may need to fight the swine flu outbreak.

Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky says the administration has told Congress that lawmakers have provided all the support and money needed so far. And if the administration says it needs additional resources, McConnell says he knows Congress would be happy to provide it on a bipartisan basis.

President Barack Obama on Friday night signed a declaration that the outbreak was a national emergency.

Health authorities say more than 1,000 people in the United States, including almost 100 children, have died from the strain of flu known as H1N1, and 46 states have widespread flu activity.

McConnell spoke on ABC’s “This Week.”
