GHAZIABAD - Burglars broke into a Shopper’s Stop outlet in the well-known Shipra Mall here and decamped with diamonds worth around Rs.1 crore (Rs.10 million), police said Thursday.

According to a police complaint filed by Nagendra Singh, area controller of the Shopper’s Stop departmental store chain in Ghaziabad, burglars entered the showroom Tuesday night. They broke open two cases of Gilli diamonds and escaped with the jewellery from the rear gate of the showroom.

‘When we opened the showroom yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon, we found that diamonds worth Rs.1 crore were missing,’ Singh said in his complaint.

Superintendent of Police (city) Anant Dev said the Shopper’s Stop management has told them that it was preparing an inventory of the missing items.

‘We are looking into the case,’ the police official said.
