Doornbos, Sharp crash during Indy 500 practice
INDIANAPOLIS — Former Indianapolis 500 pole winner Scott Sharp has crashed during practice at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, although he appears to have escaped injury.
Sharp came out of the first turn too high, spun around and nearly saved the car before it slid up the track and into the outside wall, smashing the right side.
It was the second crash Friday.
Rookie driver Robert Doornbos (DORN’-bohs) crashed during the first hour when his car skidded up the track and hit the wall in turn two, the day before qualifications begin for the Indianapolis 500.
Doornbos went to the track’s medical center, was released and cleared to drive.
