Doornbos crashes during Indy 500 practice
INDIANAPOLIS — Rookie driver Robert Doornbos (DORN’-bohs) has crashed during practice at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, skidding up the track and into the wall in turn two.
Doornbos lost part of his rear wing and his right rear tire rolled down the track before the No. 6 car stopped in the back straightaway on Friday. It did not appear Doornbos was seriously hurt the day before qualifications start for the Indy 500.
Doornbos had posted a lap of 223.955 mph before the crash
Twenty eight-drivers were on the track in the first hour, many hoping to get laps in ahead of rain that was expected later in the day.
Dario Franchitti, the 2007 Indy winner, had the fastest lap in the first hour at 224.984.
