KOLKATA - An adult rhino was found dead in a West Bengal forest Saturday morning, an official said.

The animal was seriously injured in fighting among rhinos. It was spotted by wildlife officials at Chilapata forest in Jalpaiguri district, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Atanu Raha said.

“But before we could start medical treatment, the animal fell into the Torsha river and died within half hour,” Raha said.

Raha added that the rhino population in north Bengal forests had increased from 33 to more than 120 in past 15 years.
