Bus-truck crash in China’s southwest kills 18
BEIJING — A truck rear-ended a passenger bus, causing both vehicles to plunge down a hillside Saturday in China’s southwest, killing at least 18 people and injuring 22, a state news agency said.
The truck hit the bus after the bus driver slowed for warning signs set up where another truck hit a roadside barrier earlier, the Xinhua News Agency said. The collision occurred at about 6:40 a.m. (2240 GMT) in Chuxiong prefecture in Yunnan province.
The bus fell 300 feet (100 meters), while the truck fell 200 feet (60 meters), the report said. It said 14 people on the bus and two on the truck were dead at the scene and two more bus passengers died at a hospital.
