Relief for emperor’s descendent in government hands

KOLKATA - State-run Coal India Ltd (CIL) has asked an NGO, which approached it for providing a job to a descendent of India’s last Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar, to approach the central government for suitable relief.
In a statement Wednesday, the central public sector undertaking said: “A Delhi-based NGO, Bismillah, approached the chairman of Coal India Ltd for employment of daughter of Sultana Begum, descendent of the last Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar.
“They (the NGO) were directed to approach the government of India for a suitable relief. We, however, have not met any of the descendents,” India’s largest miner said.
CIL chairman Partha S. Bhattacharyya added that if any directions are received from the government, the firm would take appropriate action accordingly.
While the NGO earlier said that Coal India had offered a job to the descendent, Coal India has said the claim was “untrue”.
