Red Star Belgrade coach quits

BELGRADE - Red Star Belgrade’s Macedonian coach Cedomir Janevski has resigned, the Serbian club said Saturday.

‘Janevski is no longer prepared to be in charge of Red Star and has agreed to cancel his contract with the club,’ the club said on its website.

Janevski’s assistant Sinisa Gogic will take over, the club said.

News reports said that the resignation came in anger over negative reporting on him and the team.

Janevski’s resignation comes a few weeks after club president Dobrivoje Tanasijevic quit. Red Star is facing a huge financial crisis and owes more than $35 million (26 million euros) to creditors and players.

The former European Cup winners rank third in the national Super League, 22 points behind leaders and arch-rivals Partizan Belgrade.
