Rakesh Chopra takes over as Member Engineering, Railway Board

NEW DELHI - Rakesh Chopra, an officer of Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE) of 1971 batch, has taken over as the new Member (Engineering), Railway Board and ex-officio Secretary to the Government of India.

He took over from S.K. Vij who superannuated on March 31.

Rakesh Chopra took charge with effect from April 1. Prior to joining, he served as General Manager, Southern Railway

A Graduate of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, Chopra is the first person to assume charge as a Member of the Railway Board. He is a product of Oak Grove Railway School, Mussorie.

During his long career, Chopra besides being GM, Southern Railway, held important postings which included Additional Member (Civil Engineering), Railway Board, Chief Administrative Officer Jammu and Kashmir New Rail Link Project, DRM, Mumbai Division of Central Railway and DRM, Delhi Division of Northern Railway.

Belonging to family of railwaymen, Chopra represents the third generation with Indian Railways.hopra extensively travelled and received trainings in UK and USA. In India, he was trained at Railway Staff College, Vadodra, Indian Railway Institute of Civil Engineers, Pune and IIPA Delhi. (ANI)
