Railways to start two Duronto trains before Durga Puja
By IANSMonday, September 7, 2009
NEW DELHI - Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee will flag off two non-stop Duronto Sewa trains before the Durga Puja festival begins Sep 25.
“Indian Railways will be starting at least two Duronto Sewa trains, from New Delhi to Sealdah and New Delhi to Chennai,” a senior ministry official said.
“The New Delhi-Chennai Duronto service is likely to start in the second week of September,” the official added.
The service to Sealdah is expected to start a week later.
Both trains will be bi-weekly with only two or three technical stoppages, and will have both air-conditioned and non-airconditioned coaches.
The New Delhi-Sealdah will take 16 hours to cover the journey, as against 17 hours taken by Rajdhani Express.

Durantos is a giant step!. by taking this step Mamata Banerjee has superseeded all past railway ministers including shri laluprasad Yadav. uptill now superfast travel was the monopoly of uppermidle class airconditioned coach traveller. Duranto will be faster than rajdhani and will have non ac coaches. so it is better than garibarth. This is the step taken in the interst of common man. now we only want to see that sporadic garibraths , sampark krantis are merged with duranto and we can then expect a daily duranto between delhi-seladh, mumbai-n.delhi, mumbai-howrah, mumbai-bangalore, mumbai-hyderabad, etc. |
