PATAN - Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, on his third trip to Gujarat in less than a month, interacted with artisan women and people from the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and sought their support in the Lok Sabha elections.

‘You have been traditionally our supporters. Of late, you have been disenchanted with the Congress. Why is it so?’ Gandhi asked at a meeting of youngsters from the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in Patan, 120 km north of Ahmedabad.

He said the central government led by the Congress has taken several steps for the upliftment of the backward classes.

As part of his two-day tour of Kutch, Saurashtra and northern Gujarat, Gandhi earlier Sunday interacted with artisan women in Bhujodi village of Kutch district, which was devastated by a major earthquake on Jan 26, 2001.

Gandhi is to meet Youth Congress workers and attend a state-level convention of the party in Rajkot.

On Monday, he will visit state capital Gandhinagar to inspect a booth specially created to register new members for the Youth Congress. In Ahmedabad, he will meet young professionals like doctors, engineers, architects, chartered accountants and students of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A).
