Quality control norms a must for all diagnostic labs

Kolkata, Sept 10 (IBNS) Bio-Rad Laboratories in association with Quality Council of India (QCI), Government of India, organized a seminar on quality control (QC) in diagnostic laboratories Wednesday. The seminar focused on the need for upgrading and enforcing QC practices in laboratories all over the country.

Accredited and recognized laboratories following quality control practices are favoured by both patients and medical practitioners alike. It is important that diagnosis be taken seriously because individual healthcare plans and medication are completely dependent on test results and lead to better patient care management.

Dr. Thuppil Venkatesh, Principle Advisor- Quality Council of India & NRCLPI said, “Only handful of labs are accredited, and this situation poses a risk to the public at large. “Diagnosis is a crucial step in determining healthcare planning including medication prescription and is imperative that we give it the attention it deserves.”

The Quality Council of India is an autonomous body under the Government of India which has established and operates a National Accreditation Structure for assessment bodies. In association with Bio-Rad Laboratories, the QCI has been actively involved in spreading awareness in the area of QC in diagnostic labs.

“Quality control in diagnostic labs is a critical step in establishing standardized testing procedures for patients. The seminar such as the one being organized in association with Quality Council of India is an initiative by Bio-Rad to raise consciousness about the subject in not just the medical fraternity but also within publics at large. The seminar saw some insightful presentations by panel of experts. Among the many topics discussed, the speakers discussed the impact of Quality Control frequency on the quality of patient results, Lean Six Sigma in Quality Management etc.

QCI was set up in 1997 as an autonomous body by the Government of India jointly with the Indian industry to establish and operate the National Accreditation Structure for conformity assessment bodies.
