Punjab teacher commits suicide after share market crash

PHAGWARA - A school teacher in this industrial town of Punjab committed suicide Thursday after suffering heavy losses in the share market, the police said.

Harsh Kumar, 35, who taught in a government aided school in a village near here, consumed poison Wednesday night.

He was rushed to a hospital from where he was referred to a specialty hospital in Ludhiana city, 40 km from here, where he died Thursday.

Relatives told the police that Kumar was under tension after losing over Rs.1.5 million (Rs.15 lakh) that he had invested in the share market.

He is survived by his wife and a toddler son. The police have registered a case of suicide.
