CHANDIGARH - Punjab legislator Gurdeep Singh Bhullar of the Shiromani Akali Dal died here Sunday. He was for long suffering from a liver disease, a police officer said.

‘He (Bhullar) was not keeping good health and was suffering from some disease related to liver for the last seven-eight years,’ investigating officer Har Sahai Sharma told IANS.

He said 50-year-old Bhullar died on his way to the hospital.

‘Though it seems to be a natural death, we are awaiting the post-mortem examination report before arriving on any conclusion,’ Sharma said.

Bhullar was elected to the Punjab state legislature from Nurmahal in Jalandhar district, around 200 km from here.

Davinder Pal, a close friend of Bhullar who brought him to the hospital, said: ‘Bhullar came to Chandigarh Saturday evening. I went to his place around 12.45 p.m. and found him lying unconscious. I immediately informed the police and brought him to the hospital.’
