No charges in rape hoax at suburban NYC university
GARDEN CITY, N.Y. — A suburban New York City prosecutor has decided not to file criminal charges against a university student who falsely claimed she was gang-raped in a dormitory bathroom.
Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice says Hofstra University freshman Danmel Ndonye (en-DAHN’-yeh) must undergo mental health treatment and perform community service in exchange for not being prosecuted. Rice described the 18-year-old as “deeply troubled.”
The student had claimed she was attacked Sept. 13 following a dance party at a Long Island campus nightclub. Four men were arrested.
But the woman changed her story three days later when she was confronted with a cell phone video of the encounter, which indicated the sex was consensual.
The accused men were released. One of their attorneys said the video looked “more like a porn movie.”
