Recalls: raisins, clam chowder and corn chowder

The following recalls have been announced:

Indian Groceries & Spices Inc. is recalling Nirav Golden Raisins because they might contain sulfites not declared on the packaging. Those who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they eat the products. The Skokie, Ill., company said it has received no reports of illnesses.

The recalled raisins were distributed from Jan. 6 to Jan. 31 this year to retail stores in Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio and Tennessee. Products purchased from Jan. 6 through June 10 are affected by the recall. The raisins were sold in 7-ounce and 14-ounce plastic bags under the Nirav brand. The 14-ounce bags have the UPC 0 24433 01025 2, and the 7-ounce bags have the UPC 0 24433 01027 6. For more information, consumers can call 847-674-2480.

R. E. Kimball and Company Inc. is recalling about 1,200 cans of clam chowder and corn chowder because the products contain milk and wheat not declared on their packaging. Those who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk or wheat run the risk of a serious or life-threatening reaction if they eat the products. No illnesses have been reported to date, according to the Amesbury, Mass., company.

The recalled clam chowder and corn chowder products are packaged under these brand labels: Harrington’s; House of Stevens; Old Sturbridge Village; Mystic Seaport; Nantucket Museum Shop; Idylwilde Farms; Nantucket Maid: The Four Winds; Bolton Orchards; and Nantucket Gourmet.

The products were distributed in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Rhode Island and New York. They were sold in 15-ounce cans to small retail stores. The recalled clam chowder has the code number PLG2958B, and the recalled corn chowder has the code number PLC2968B. For more information, consumers can call 978-388-1826.
