Cops: Armed man holding wife at OH retirement home
OTTAWA HILLS, Ohio — Toledo police say a man is holding his estranged wife at gunpoint at a suburban retirement community.
Tuesday’s standoff comes about a month after the same held police at bay for three hours during a domestic violence call at his home.
Toledo police Capt. Ron Navarro says hostage negotiators are in contact with Michael Swiergosz (SWEER’-gohz) at the Sunset House assisted-living home in Ottawa Hills.
Navarro says he believes Swiergosz’ wife is unharmed. Media reports say Barbara Swiergosz works at the home.
A woman identified as her mother tells WTOL-TV in Toledo that Swiergosz has abused his wife in the past.
