Heroic Ohio cop blames budget cuts for his burns
WARREN, Ohio — An Ohio police officer who was wounded when he saved people from a fire blames his injuries on budget cuts that shut down a nearby fire station.
Warren police Officer Doug Hipple spoke at a city council meeting Wednesday and offered his condolences over the death of one fire victim. Then he asked Mayor Michael O’Brien to step down because, he says, the city is failing.
Hipple was hurt April 28 saving people from the arson fire in the northeast Ohio city. He arrived on the scene before firefighters.
The mayor describes Hipple as understandably frustrated with the budget crisis. O’Brien says it’s a tough time to be mayor.
