CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Police say they’ve determined who was driving a car with five young people inside that was struck by an Amtrak passenger train after skirting a gate at a road crossing near Detroit.
Thursday’s crash in Canton Township, about 20 miles west of Detroit, killed all five in the sedan. Sgt. Mark Gajeski, a police spokesman, said Friday that 19-year-old Dan Broughton was driving.
The mother of 14-year-old Jessica Sadler said Thursday the girl was among those killed. And police previously said the young men killed also included an 18-year-old and a 20-year-old from Taylor and a 21-year-old from Stafford, Va.
Police plan to release a copy of surveillance video on Friday from a nearby business that captured the crash and audio from a 911 report.
