Police foil bid to smuggle hashish, drugs into Punjab jail

LUDHIANA - A bid to smuggle contraband and intoxicants into the central jail in Punjab’s Ludhiana district was foiled and one man was arrested, officials said Sunday.

According to police, a man was arrested late Saturday evening while he was trying to smuggle hashish in tins of desi ghee (clarified butter) and around 5,000 intoxicant tablets in a bag of rice.

We arrested this man during regular frisking in the jail. His interrogation is on and we are hopeful of making more arrests in this case in the coming days, said a senior official of the Ludhiana central jail.

Ludhiana, the industrial hub of Punjab is around 100 km from the state capital Chandigarh.
