NEW DELHI - Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Monday condoled the death of Punjab minister Captain Kanwlajit Singh, describing him as an ‘upright politician’.

‘Capt Kanwaljit Singh served the people of the state with distinction for many years not only as an MLA but also in senior ministerial positions, most recently as the minister for cooperatives. He was known as an upright politician who worked hard at the grassroot level,’ Manmohan Singh said in a message.

‘In his passing away, Punjab has lost a distinguished son who was committed to the development of the state.’

Kanwaljit Singh was killed in a car accident on the Chandigarh-Ludhiana highway Sunday.
