Man jailed 14 years for court contempt to be freed
MEDIA, Pa. — A Pennsylvania man jailed for contempt of court for 14 years has been ordered released.
H. Beatty Chadwick has been jailed in suburban Philadelphia since 1995 in what’s believed to be a record in a U.S. civil contempt case. He was ordered released Friday.
Chadwick is accused of hiding $2.5 million from his ex-wife and was jailed for not disclosing its whereabouts. Chadwick maintains he lost the money in bad investments.
Delaware County Judge Joseph Cronin determined the continued incarceration of Chadwick would not result in compliance with the order.
