Pakistani army: Militant leader in Swat wounded

ISLAMABAD — A Pakistani army spokesman says the leader of the Taliban in the Swat Valley has been wounded in an airstrike.

The spokesman said Wednesday “credible information” showed Maulana Fazlullah had been hit. He gave no more details.

Taliban spokesmen were not reachable.

The military has been fighting the Taliban in the northwestern Swat Valley for more than two months.

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Intelligence officials say a second suspected U.S. missile strike has killed at least 18 militants in northwest Pakistan.

The strike Wednesday hit five vehicles carrying Taliban fighters in South Waziristan.

Earlier, 10 militants were killed in a suspected U.S. missile strike in the same region.

The intelligence officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.
