Pakistan: 55 militants, 2 troops dead in northwest

ISLAMABAD — Pakistan’s army says 55 militants and two troops have been killed in the past 24 hours in a raging battle for a district near the capital.

Military spokesman Maj. Gen. Athar Abbas says the militants killed in the Buner region included foreigners. He did not give any details of their identity.

Abbas also told a news conference Friday that militants had kidnapped 10 troops in the nearby Dir district.
