Ousted Honduran president to address UN assembly

UNITED NATIONS — The ousted president of Honduras will address the U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday.

Manuel Zelaya plans to appear before the world body at 11 a.m. (1500 GMT), a U.N. official confirmed.

Enrique Yeves, a spokesman for Assembly President Miguel D’Escoto Brockmann, also said Honduran diplomats may propose a resolution expressing support for Zelaya as the democratically elected president.

Zelaya was forced into exile in Costa Rica after soldiers stormed his palace early Sunday morning.
