One killed, nine injured in Peshawar car bomb attack (Third Lead)

PESHAWAR - An eight-year-old child was killed and nine other people were injured Thursday in a car bomb attack in Pakistan’s northwestern Peshawar city, media reports said.
The blast occurred around 5.00 p.m. in the Gulshan Rehman Colony that houses the government officials of Peshawar, the capital of North West Frontier Province (NWFP).
Nine people were injured and a three-storey building was completely destroyed in the blast, the Online news agency reported.
Police said the blast took place near the house of deputy secretary of the interior ministry.
The injured were rushed to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar. Two of the injured are in critical condition.
Peshawar police chief Liaqat Ali Khan told the media that the explosives-filled car was detonated through a remote control device. About 70-80 kg explosives were used in the attack.
He said the terrorists are now targeting the residential areas because they were unable to attack the government facilities due to tight security.
Meanwhile, the security forces have cordoned off the area and started a manhunt to nab the culprits.
