Fire at Detroit chemical factory is extinguished
DETROIT — Authorities say firefighters have put out the blaze at a Detroit chemical factory that had forced employees and nearby businesses to evacuate.
Fire officials say no one was injured in the fire at Diversified Chemical Technologies Inc. The blaze was extinguished early Tuesday and crews were to begin cleanup efforts.
There were several explosions inside the plant around 3 p.m. Monday and dense black smoke billowed from the factory.
Firefighters evacuated about 300 employees and some surrounding businesses. Diversified Chemical Technologies’ Web site says its complex encompasses 750,000 square feet of office, laboratory and manufacturing space.
The company produces chemicals for clients ranging from the automotive to food and beverage industries.
