Officials: Worker falls 125 feet in lift accident
PHILADELPHIA — A construction lift fell over in downtown Philadelphia and the fire department says two people have been taken to the hospital, including a worker who fell 125 feet.
A Philadelphia Fire Department supervisor says the accident occurred at about 1:30 p.m.
The equipment, which looks much like a mobile crane, has a long boom with a platform at the end.
Witnesses say the worker was completing maintenance work to the roof of a church when the equipment rode over a street grate that slowly gave way.
It fell to its side, knocking down a traffic light and light pole. A car parked on the street was hit by debris, breaking the windshield.
(This version CORRECTS description of equipment.)
