Official: 27 children die in Mexico day care fire
MEXICO CITY — A Mexican official says at least 27 children have been killed in a fire that spread from a warehouse to a day care in the northern city of Hermosillo.
Prosecutors spokesman Jose Larrinaga told the Televisa television network that dozens more have been hospitalized.
Larrinaga says the fire started at a car and tire depot and spread to the day care.
Guadalupe Ayala, coordinator of Red Cross rescue workers, said about 100 children were inside the day care center when it caught fire but didn’t say how many were killed.
The children ranged in age from six months to five years old.
