Obama vacation takeoff delayed by Hurricane Bill
WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama is ready to start a Martha’s Vineyard vacation with his family, but not as soon as he planned.
The White House said the first family’s takeoff had to be changed in connection with the movement along the eastern seaboard of Hurricane Bill.
The hurricane has weakened, but high winds from the storm played havoc with the eastern seaboard Saturday, and so it was decided to delay the departure of the president, his wife Michelle and their daughters. The new plan has the family flying from Andrews Air Force base in Maryland to the island early Sunday afternoon, several hours later than first scheduled.
