Obama wraps up UN meetings, moves on to G-20 in Pittsburgh

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama moves from one summit of world leaders to another Thursday.

The early part of the day is devoted to meetings in and around the United Nations General Assembly. In the morning, Obama will chair a U.N. Security Council meeting, becoming the first American president to do so.

Later, he and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown co-chair a meeting bringing together the Friends of Pakistan.

Obama then departs New York for Pittsburgh, where preparations for the G-20 Summit are under way. The president and first lady Michelle Obama will be on hand to welcome leaders and their spouses.

In the evening, the president attends the G-20 leaders’ working dinner.
