Obama hasn’t yet picked a church for his family

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama says he is taking his time picking a church because his choice will undergo political scrutiny.

Obama told reporters from religious news outlets on Thursday that he hasn’t yet selected a place to worship in Washington but has attended services at the presidential retreat at Camp David. He says last year’s controversy over his former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, left his family a bit shaken.

Obama left Wright’s church in Chicago after incendiary sermons were made public and their relationship became a political liability for him as a presidential candidate.

Obama says his family will decide how to handle their place of worship later this year. He says they might choose to rotate among many churches.
