PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — President Barack Obama is seeking to reassure the nation’s seniors that health care overhaul won’t mean cuts in Medicare.

Addressing a town hall in New Hampshire, Obama acknowledged that polls show seniors most worried about reductions in Medicare, a voting bloc that would be crucial to building support for his overhaul. The president reminded the crowd that AARP backs his effort and said the organization wouldn’t take that step if it meant cuts in Medicare.

Obama told the crowd: “We are not talking about cutting Medicare.”
